Reform meets reality

Nigel Farage looking pleased with himself

In the run-up to the May elections Reform said that they would cut taxes in the councils that they won. They didn't say they'd think about it or try and do it, they categorically promised to cut tax bills.

They lied.

The reality is that Reform will tell you whatever you need to hear to vote for them. They are pound shop Lib Dems. They promised to cut Council Tax and they can't because they have to balance the books. They promised to cut business rates and they can't because they don't have the legal power. They promised to cut council spending and they can't because they'd have to break the law. They promised to stop illegal immigrants crossing the Channel and they can't because it's nothing to do with councils.

Reform are learning the hard way that it's easy to make promises but delivering on them is a whole different prospect.
